Osteopathy in the elderly
Originally, the human body tends to be very mobile. Loss of movement can occur from various causes in young and old.
Loss of movement of tissue can occur due to external influences or processes within the body itself. Everyone is born with the characteristics of the parents. For example, one family is vulnerable on the intestines and another family tends to have back pain and so on.
With what complaints to the osteopath?
The symptoms that occur in the elderly are largely similar to those in adults. The approach to treatment is less intensive because of the need to consider decrease in tissue quality and speed of recovery.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis in particular is common in the elderly. This degeneration of joints is considered normal. The degree of osteoarthritis does not always correspond to the amount of pain. In other words: The more osteoarthritis does not necessarily give more pain, and mild osteoarthritis can give a lot of pain. Osteoarthritis itself is difficult to treat. However, it is possible to reduce the pressure on the affected area by looking for the reason for the increased pressure. This decreases the pain and thus restriction and may even give cartilage some chance to repair.
