What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a method of treatment in which the osteopath uses his hands to find out where your symptoms are coming from. It is possible that the cause of your pain is in a different place than where you feel it. Therefore, the osteopath examines your entire body, including:

  • The parietal aspect, which relates to the muscles, bones and joints
  • The visceral aspect, which relates to the internal organs such as the intestines, lungs and heart
  • The craniosacral aspect, which relates to the skull and meninges

Help from an osteopath for common complaints

An osteopath helps with common complaints. Consider:

General malaise Neck pain
Abdominal complaints Misunderstood complaints
Burnout Back pain
Joint complaints Ski complaints
Hip pain Muscle complaints
Headaches or migraines Adhesions
Stomach upset Fatigue

How can an osteopath help you?

Complaints often involve a disturbance of the balance of movement in your body. This disturbance may go unnoticed, but the pain causing the disturbance can be felt. An osteopath uses manual techniques to treat the cause of the complaints. In this process, your practitioner performs hand manipulations in the area where the movement disturbances occur.
The body needs movement to stay healthy, and osteopathy helps restore this mobility. The osteopath helps the body heal itself by improving fluid flow and elasticity of tissues.

Preventive and permanent relief of symptoms with osteopathy

Our osteopathic treatments at Paramedisch Centrum Rijnsburg, near Oegstgeest, are aimed at improving your daily functioning.
We value a personal approach and look together with you at the most appropriate path to recovery, so that in the long term you are definitively rid of your complaints and your overall well-being is improved.
Our preventive policy is aimed at preventing complaints before they develop and permanently alleviating your complaints. After your primary complaint has significantly improved, we reduce the number of treatments. Only periodic maintenance is then usually required.

How does the treatment pan out?

Begin with a personal intake and physical examination
The treatment process begins with a personal intake and a comprehensive physical examination. During the intake, your practitioner will ask you about your medical history, current symptoms and overall health. This is followed by a physical examination of the mobility of your joints, muscles and soft tissues. After the findings are discussed with you, treatment begins.

Reactions to osteopathic treatment can vary
Every person responds differently to an osteopathic treatment. You may experience different reactions at the beginning of treatment. Some of these reactions may include worsening or improvement of your symptoms, headaches, feelings of heat or cold, fatigue or emotional reactions. We recommend that you drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous physical activity on the day of treatment.

Duration of osteopathic treatments: what can you expect?
The number of osteopathic treatments needed depends on the type and severity of your complaints. After a few treatments you will already notice if the osteopathy is effective. Generally, three to five sessions are sufficient to relieve acute complaints. For chronic or persistent complaints, the recovery process may take longer and require more treatments.

We take a break of several weeks between treatments. This gives your body time to get used to the new balance. Besides the treatment, the osteopath also gives you insight into the causes of the disturbances in your body. You may receive advice on your lifestyle or diet to promote the recovery process.
